Parasaurolophus meaning "near crested lizard" in reference to Saurolophus is a genus of ornithopod dinosaur that lived in what is now North America during the Late Cretaceous Period, about 76.5–73 million years ago. Their most prominent feature is the boney crest protruding from the back of their skull. It likely made a large boom of variable pitch, and was likely used to scare off predators or to attract mates.
