'''Phytoplankton''' are the autotrophic components of the plankton community. The name comes from the [[Wikipedia:Greek language|Greek]] words φυτόν (phyton), meaning "plant", and πλαγκτός (planktos), meaning "wanderer" or "drifter". Most phytoplankton are too small to be individually seen with the unaided eye.

In [[Tasty Blue]] they are found in the Arctic region only, first appearing in [[Partaking of Plankton]]. In the game all Phytoplankton are diatoms and transparent.
