Tau Ceti is a single star in the Cetus constellation, which is spectrally similar to the Sun, although it has 78% of the Sun's mass. Being only below 12 light years from the Earth, the star has an apparent magnitude of 3.5. It is also the closest solitary G-class star, having 0.793 times the solar radius as well. The name "Tau Ceti" is the Bayer designation which was established in 1603, as part of Johann Bayer's Uranometria star catalogue, which is "number T." Evidence has pointed there to be 4 planets orbiting the star, which consist of Tau Ceti e, f, g, and h. Tau Ceti b, c, d, and i are unconfirmed.
